About the role

Every store manager is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of the store within company policy and local laws to ensure profitability and the highest level of customer service. Our golden rule: “The customer is the most important person in all our stores.”

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service
    • Give all customers prompt and courteous service adhering to all Best In Class standards.
    • Ensure store appearance reflects company expectations and standards.
    • Keep the store open and ready for business during all hours.
    • Handle all customer conflicts by using the MAKE IT RIGHT method.
  • Profitability
    • Increase profits to ensure the financial security of our ESOP.
    • Utilize all tools and departments to ensure all programs and policies are executed.
    • Manage expenses and sales to budget (or better).
    • Conduct neighborhood marketing by knowing customers’ wants and needs through community involvement.
    • Participate in all Suggestive Selling contests by motivating Sales Associates.
  • General Management
    • Commit to the company Vision/Mission Statement (T.H.A.N.K.S.).
    • Recruit talented candidates for the company.
    • Effectively schedule associates to meet business demands per labor planner program.
    • Communicate effectively with store associates, Division Manager, and the corporate office.
    • Follow all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances pertaining to store operations.
    • Provide a role model of conduct for other associates.
    • Control variable expenses of the store.
    • Ensure all associates adhere to company uniform policy and provide prompt, courteous customer service.
    • Perform all Store Manager checklists daily.
    • Ensure Sales Associate checklists are performed each shift.
    • Post schedules two weeks in advance, per policy.
  • Accounting
    • Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Maintain inventory and cash loss within company guidelines.
    • Conduct inventories, cash audits, cigarette counts, cost and supply audits as directed.
    • Ensure all store deposits are taken to the bank daily, including weekends.
    • Keep sufficient change available for use throughout all operating hours.
    • Send all required documents to store analysts.
  • Human Resources
    • Treat all associates with dignity and respect and use proper personnel management techniques.
    • Ensure all associates receive breaks.
    • Advise the division manager of any personnel situations or policy violations adversely affecting store performance.
    • Commit to all training programs by working with the Trainer to ensure all associates are trained on their job duties.
    • Ensure all associates record all hours worked by following the “no work off the clock” policy.
    • Provide an environment free of harassment or hostile conditions.
    • Comply with the Company’s Responsible Retailing policy.
    • Work with associates to ensure ongoing training and development to further their careers.
    • Record hours worked in the workstation.
  • Security
    • Ensure all associate cash handling procedures are followed.
    • Ensure all security video surveillance equipment is in working order.
    • Ensure a safe shopping and working environment.
    • Protect all company assets, including cash and merchandise.
    • Follow vendor check-in procedures per company policy.
    • Keep cash only in one of three places: safe, cash register, and bank.
  • Merchandising
    • Ensure all promotional signs are posted on the date assigned.
    • Use current plan-o-grams.
    • Communicate with the District Manager for any special needs or requests.
    • Send all merchandise orders properly to prevent out-of-stocks and maintain inventory levels as directed.
    • Work with DSD vendors to ensure 100% in-stock of product.
    • Monitor inventory levels at all times and communicate with the Division Manager to prevent out-of-stocks.
    • Keep all food service areas clean and follow all sanitation procedures.
  • Maintenance
    • Keep floors clean and maintained.
    • Report any maintenance problems that cannot be corrected immediately to the Huck’s Solution Center via the Intranet.
    • Ensure all equipment is in working order by maintaining proper operating procedures.
  • Safety
    • Ensure ladders are properly used.
    • Follow company policy for lifting procedures.
    • Use wet floor signs and floor dryers per company policy.
    • Report accidents promptly to the District Manager and corporate office.
    • Report all work-related injuries.
    • Comply with all EPA regulations by following UST procedures.
