We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Store Designer to develop compelling retail environments that balance brand identity, customer experience, and constructability. The role leads store planning, fixture and millwork design, documentation, and coordination with vendors and contractors to deliver high-quality retail projects on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of retail store environments from concept through construction administration, ensuring designs meet brand standards and business objectives.
- Produce space plans, layouts, and visual merchandising strategies that optimize customer flow, product presentation, and operational efficiency.
- Develop fixture, millwork and FF&E concept designs and detailed shop drawings with accurate joinery, hardware and material specifications.
- Create and manage construction documents, technical drawings, and assembly details in AutoCAD, Revit or Rhino to ensure seamless transition to construction.
- Generate high-quality 3D models and renderings using SketchUp, 3DS Max, V-Ray, Enscape or similar tools to communicate design intent to clients and stakeholders.
- Specify materials, finishes, lighting layouts, signage and wayfinding solutions while confirming ADA and building code compliance.
- Prepare cost estimates, coordinate with vendors and manufacturers, and manage prototyping and model-making for fixtures and displays.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, engineers, visual merchandisers, procurement and construction teams to resolve design and installation issues.
- Perform site visits, review mock-ups, support installation teams and provide construction administration to ensure design quality and intent are maintained.
- Maintain project schedules, organize deliverables, and ensure documentation is thorough for handoff to operations and maintenance.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive, technically sophisticated design experience in architectural, experiential or brand design and a demonstrated ability to apply these skills in ways that elevate brand excellence.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in architecture, industrial, or environmental design, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience, or training.
- Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Keynote.
- Experience managing a design project or studio in the delivery of progressively complex projects of scale, budget, and size.
- Previous retail/industry experience preferred.
Skills
- Nice to haves: After Effects, Premiere, Miro, Figma, SketchUp and Unreal Engine.
