About the role

As a Sterile Processing Technician for STERIS, you’ll work behind the scenes of healthcare facilities in a fast-paced environment, impacting patient safety without being patient-facing. You will support surgical procedures by ensuring medical instruments are clean, sterile, organized, and available for the surgical team in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, DNV, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards.

Responsibilities

  • Reprocess surgical trays post-surgery; ensuring they are decontaminated, cleaned, inspected, sterilized, correctly assembled within a timely manner, and ready for the next case.
  • Operate all mechanical machinery within the department such as cart washers, instrument washers, steam sterilizers, low temp sterilizers, ultrasonic, and drying cabinets.
  • Use the implemented Track & Trace system established within the sterile processing department for all tasks and products processed.
  • Perform assembly on advanced instrument and vendor trays aligned with IP quality and production standards.
  • Participate in regular on-site training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience with demonstrated proficiency in all SPD Technician responsibilities, including working independently with all tray sets.
  • CRCST, CSPDT, CST, or CER/CFER certification is required.
  • Must obtain CIS/CSIS, CHL/CSPM, or STERIS Assessment certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Must maintain certification by completing 12 Continuing Education Credit Hours annually.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Completion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist program.

Pay

Pay range for this opportunity is $23.09 - $29.88 per hour. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than the range listed. Pay rates are based on factors including local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, and foreign language fluency.

Schedule

Afternoon shift, 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is an onsite role based in Durham, NC.
