Sterile Processing Technician III

Job Summary

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician III for their Ft. Thomas Sterile Processing department. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, second shift.

Job Description

• Provides input to management for performance appraisals and counseling /disciplinary actions as needed.
• Aids in implementing and evaluating departmental goals consistent with organizational mission, vision, values.
• Collaborates with personnel of various departments to ensure availability of appropriate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Schedules, supervises, and oversees the training of technicians in each area.
• Loads, operates, and tests sterilizers to avoid contamination.
• Incubates spores and interprets results, graphs, and printouts to ensure sterilizers are functioning properly.
• Operates and maintains Medivator and Olympus Endoscope Reprocessors and performs filter maintenance.
• Performs sterile processing functions as needed.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with inter- and intradepartmental staff.
• Maintains sterilization processes and documentation to ensure adherence to infection control practices.
• Ensures timely follow-up, communication, and resolution to concerns of staff, physicians, and health care team members.
• Assists in meeting department financial goals by adjusting staffing as needed.
• Demonstrates cost-effective utilization of supplies and equipment.
• Directs sterile processing activities and offers technical guidance on complex issues.
• Organizes responsibilities within the team and ensures ongoing personal growth and development.

Qualifications

• High School graduate
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
• If working in Endoscopy Department, Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBEP), Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Endoscopy Reprocessing Specialist (CER)

Specialized Knowledge

• Knowledge of perioperative instrumentation, sterilization, and AAMI standards
• Knowledge of Joint Commission and AORN Standards
• Computer entry skills
• Competent in SGNA Guidelines (if working in Endoscopy Department)

Experience

• Two years Sterile Processing experience as a Sterile Processing Tech
• If working in Endoscopy Department, experience in Endoscopy Tech role

Education

High School graduate. If working in Endoscopy Department, additional specialized certifications may be required.
