About the Role
A knowledgeable Sterile Processing Technician is needed to support department operations, perform sterilization tasks, and ensure safety standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate reusable instruments per manufacturer guidelines, logging items manually.
- Operate cleaning and decontamination machinery, including washers and sterilizers.
- Inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments, preparing trays and monitoring sterilization settings.
- Assist in department operations, organize workflow, and address customer needs, possibly leading in the absence of the SPD Manager.
- Stay current with medical instrument processing through education and participation in hospital committees.
- Support staff training, conduct competency testing, and may serve as charge person to manage workflow and safety.
- Communicate effectively with staff, OR personnel, and managers to ensure smooth operations and accurate documentation.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and use resources for decision-making and problem resolution.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum of three years' experience in Sterile Processing.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
- Must obtain Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) certification within one year if not already held.
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred.
