About the Role
The Sterile Processing Technician ensures the proper decontamination, sterilization, and handling of surgical instruments and equipment. They operate cleaning machinery, inspect and prepare instruments, and maintain compliance with manufacturer guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate reusable instruments and equipment.
- Operate washers, reprocessors, and sterilizers, and monitor critical settings.
- Inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments; prepare trays as per standards.
- Assist with department operations, training staff, and managing workflow in the absence of a supervisor.
- Maintain knowledge through ongoing education and participate in hospital committees.
- Communicate and collaborate with staff, OR personnel, and managers to ensure smooth operations.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and support decision-making.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum three years of Sterile Processing experience.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
- Must obtain Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) certification within one year of hire.
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred.
