About the role

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Sterile Processing Technician. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of medical equipment and instruments used in surgeries.

Responsibilities

• Follows standard precautions to control the spread of infection while in decontamination, prep and disinfection processing areas.
• Responsible for practice according to manufacturer recommendations for high level disinfection to include quality control monitoring, and assembly of instrumentation.
• Manages inventory to meet operations in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Complies with quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure processing equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
• Inspects and verifies instruments and equipment function properly.
• Submits work orders for equipment and maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment from service.
• Performs quality assurance monitoring for all sterilized products before instrumentation is released for patient care.
• Makes decisions for release of instrumentation based on industry standards.
• Participates in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• All Knowledge of medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology and anatomy.
• Knowledge of oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
• Knowledge of and use of manufacturer instructions for use for cleaning, decontamination and sterilizing medical equipment and surgical instrumentation.
• Knowledge of safety precautions/procedures for operating vehicles, equipment while transporting bio-hazardous materials.
• Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
• Skill in using analytical and research skills to solve problems and make informed decisions.
• Skill in adapting to changing situations.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
• Skill in operating a personal computer using a variety of applications.
• Minimum education qualification: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum qualifications are based on level of position. Years of experience may be used to substitute certification requirements; an additional two (2) years of experience will be required if substituting the requirement of a single certification.
• Certification is preferred and staff will be encouraged to obtain certification when eligible.
