Sterile Processing Technician I

Responsibilities

• Performs instrument decontamination functions: disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment using correct manual and mechanical processes.
• Operates decontamination equipment such as sonic washer, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators.
• Transports case carts from soiled holding area in surgery to the decontamination room, unloads case carts, and places them in designated areas.
• Unloads instruments from washer sterilizers and distributes them to appropriate workstations.
• Utilizes SPM to assemble and pack instrument trays and packs, ensuring proper reassembly and identification of items.
• Monitors and documents biological and chemical indicator results to ensure sterilization parameters are met.
• Builts surgical case carts, labels locations of instruments and supplies, and ensures all instrumentation is sterilized properly before adding to the cart.
• Performs equipment decontamination functions: disassembles, cleans, and disinfects equipment, inspects for wear and disrepair, and coordinates reporting of such equipment to relevant departments.
• Fulfills requests from OR core areas and responds to emergency codes when required.
• Attends departmental in-services and mandatory meetings, acts as a liaison between Central Service and all customers, and communicates effectively.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and skills required to perform the position duties.
• Specialized knowledge or skills, which are REQUIRED to perform the position duties.
• Preferred but not required: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) license, obtained within the first year of hire.
