Sterile Processing Supervisor

About the role

This position directly supervises sterile processing personnel, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to infection control policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and supervises staff to ensure smooth workflow in the department.
  • Selects, trains, and manages staff performance.
  • Provides daily direction and sets goals for individuals and the team.
  • Acts as a mentor and coach, providing development and growth opportunities for staff.
  • Coordinates and maintains departmental workflow in decontamination, instrument inspection, cleaning, assembly, and packaging.
  • Utilizes instrumentation bar code tracking systems (SPM, Epic, and Dove Tree).
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates procurement and stocking activities.
  • Analyzes supply usage patterns and recommends optimal par levels.
  • Facilitates timely ordering of instrumentation and supplies.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and expense control.
  • Tracks and documents lost or damaged equipment and supplies.
  • Improves work processes to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Communicates with staff and ancillary departments to provide ongoing feedback and support.
  • Participates in hospital teams to share information, problem-solve, and evaluate service impacts on receiving departments.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including one year of leadership experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of sterile processing procedures and practices.
  • Strong customer service, teamwork, multitasking, attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST, HSPA, or CBSPD).

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including one year of leadership experience.
