About the role

Ensures the timely and efficient completion of instrumentation and case carts for use in the operating room (OR) and cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) by monitoring the daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department.

Identifies orientation and education needs of staff and assists in designing and developing programs to promote education and enhance their technical knowledge.

Aids the department manager with the development and implementation of new programs and systems.

Screens candidates for replacement positions and participates in the completion of annual performance and competency evaluations.

Promotes communication and collaboration among staff to enhance end products provided to areas serviced.

Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the manager.

Acts as preceptor, mentor and resource in support of department team members.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a high level of sterility and safety standards in all aspects of the department.
  • Monitors the daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department to ensure timely and efficient completion of instrumentation and case carts.
  • Identifies and addresses issues related to instrument processing and maintenance.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new programs and systems within the department.
  • Screens candidates for replacement positions and participates in the completion of annual performance and competency evaluations.
  • Promotes communication and collaboration among staff to enhance end products provided to areas serviced.
  • Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the manager.
  • Acts as a preceptor, mentor and resource in support of department team members.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent Education
  • Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CBSPD) Certification
  • Experience in Sterile Processing Surgical Services

Qualifications

  • Essential: HS Graduate or Equivalent
  • Essential: Education equivalent experience
  • Essential: CBSPD Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist
