STEM Youth Mentor (Midvale)

Job Summary

In partnership with AmeriCorps, STEM Youth Development Professionals (YDP) facilitate fun, engaging, and age‑appropriate STEM‑related activities for youth or teens from diverse backgrounds. Using the three priority outcomes—academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles—as a guide, YDPs run programs, offer support, and ensure every Club Member has an Optimal Club Experience that sets them up for lifelong success. Successful YDPs have a passion for serving others, can connect with young people, and are team players who ensure safety, recognition, and skill‑building opportunities for Club Members.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement daily group activities focused on STEM and academics for youth ages 8‑12.
• Transport youth in Club vehicles (school pick‑ups, field trips, etc.).
• Ensure engagement and promote consistent attendance of youth enrolled in activities.
• Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, and role modeling.
• Provide active supervision, continually interacting with all members.
• Submit regular lesson plans, attendance sheets, and other paperwork.
• Plan special events such as guest speakers, performances, or field trips.
• Abide by and carry out safety policies and procedures.
• Attend local trainings.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR check, and drug screening.
• 21 years of age or older (to meet driving requirements) and willing and able to drive 15‑passenger vans.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a STEM‑related field of study or strong interest in STEM and educational programming for youth.
• Bilingual Spanish/English.

Pay

$15‑$17 per hour (DOE); eligible for the additional $1,565 Education Award.

Schedule

25 hours per week – Monday‑Thursday 2:00 pm‑6:30 pm, Fridays 12:00 pm‑6:30 pm. Potential for additional hours during summer programming.
