Duties
- Deliver engaging STEM programs and activities for school groups, community organizations, or other interested audiences, including hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and workshops.
- Lead the facilitation of interactive and inquiry-based learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem solving, and scientific inquiry skills among participants.
- Guide participants in using scientific equipment, tools, and technologies during their exploration or participation in activities, events, etc.
- Guide participants as they conduct experiments, make observations, and analyze data to deepen their understanding of scientific principles.
- Ensure (where applicable) that STEM Mentors observe and record the behavior of participants (using provided rubrics) and provide oral/written reports on incidents.
- Uphold the Morrison Mentors code of conduct among participants and ensure that they adhere to it.
- Model positive and safe behavior to participants that encourage the development of their social-emotional (SEL) skills.
- Maintain and setup/breakdown (packing, assembly, and dismantling) of STEM exhibits and equipment, ensuring that they are safe, functional, and engaging for participants.
- Prepare photocopies and package materials for use in workshops and other activities.
- Collaborate with other STEM Instructors and STEM Mentors to refine STEM programs and activities, based on participant feedback and educational goals.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to STEM Mentors, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the effective delivery of STEM education programs.
- Assist with the supervision of STEM Mentors and conducting performance management activities.
- Stay informed about the latest developments and advancements in STEM fields and integrate relevant content into programming to keep participants up to date with current scientific knowledge.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance facilitation skills, knowledge of STEM disciplines, and familiarity with innovative educational practices in informal learning settings.
Qualifications
- No formal education or experience required.
- Must be able to model positive and safe behavior to participants.
- Must be able to conduct experiments, make observations, and analyze data.
- Must be able to maintain and setup/breakdown STEM exhibits and equipment.
- Must be able to prepare photocopies and package materials.
- Must be able to collaborate with other STEM Instructors and STEM Mentors.
- Must be able to provide mentorship and guidance to STEM Mentors.
- Must be able to participate in professional development activities.
