Holliday Lake State Park is accepting applications for a Trades Technician position.
Summary
Performs the recurring grounds care, park maintenance, equipment maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. Includes cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, raking/removing leaf litter, trash and litter removal, cleaning campsites, bunkhouse as well as other facilities and grounds. Provides supervision for seasonal Trades Techs and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Perform groundskeeper tasks such as mowing, weed eating, cleaning bathrooms, trash removal, and light construction.
- Work independently on assigned tasks.
- Safely and competently use power tools (gas and electric).
- Perform preventative maintenance on mowers, groundskeeper equipment, and tools.
- Perform basic carpentry for repairs to bridges and other park structures.
- Drive and operate tractors, UTVs, trucks and other heavy machinery.
- Train new members of staff and volunteers.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- Position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- Combination of experience and/or training in one or more of the following: building, grounds, or equipment maintenance.
- Experience working with common hand tools, as well as cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Experience working with minor plumbing, electrical, and/or carpentry repairs.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in grounds maintenance and equipment operation.
- Experience leading or supervising others.
- Experience with cleaning rental facilities and/or housekeeping.
- Experience with small engine and/or vehicle repairs.
Special Instructions
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
