Job Summary
Kiptopeke State Park is seeking a dependable, motivated individual who thrives in a team environment, follows directions and performs tasks independently with minimal supervision. This position plays a key role in the daily operations and upkeep of park facilities, grounds, and equipment, while fostering positive interactions with a diverse visiting public.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform janitorial duties, including cleaning public restrooms, bathhouses, and park facilities.
- Perform ground maintenance, including mowing grass, weed eating, leaf removal, and trash and litter removal.
- Operate motorized equipment such as trucks, trailers, tractors, UTVs, etc...
- Aid with vehicle and equipment maintenance (small engine repair and preventative maintenance).
- Aid with tree cleanup with the ability to operate a chainsaw after apprenticeship training.
- Perform skilled facility repairs (basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry).
- Aid with leading and training new staff members.
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies.
- Experience organizing and performing cleaning and maintenance functions.
- Experience following direction and taking initiative.
- Experience with operating tools and equipment.
Additional Considerations
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry.
Background Check
Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility
Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form.
Driver’s License Requirement
A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
