About the role

Claytor Lake State Park is accepting applications for Gas Dock Ranger positions. Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

Greet guests in a friendly and timely manner, provide efficient and professional service, ensure correct collection and recording of all monies due for goods and services, and assist guests with questions about park facilities and operations.

Responsibilities

• Use a POS operating system
• Provide excellent customer service and information about the park
• Count money, perform daily register transactions, reconcile register, and complete daily cash management paperwork
• Clean the facility as needed
• Interpret park rules and regulations, especially fishing and parking
• Sell fishing licenses using the DWR computerized system
• Assist with physical inventories
• Perform additional duties as requested by supervisors
• Provide information about facility rentals, rules, and regulations
• Give accurate directions to any place in the park

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be able to count money and perform daily register transactions
• Must be able to work well with other staff and guests in a team environment
• Requires standing, bending, and walking
• Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check. Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $14.00

Schedule

Wage/seasonal positions are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

Benefits

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits. However, DCR employees receive the following perks:

• Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks
• Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people
• Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day
• Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights (two-night minimum stay required)
• Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts included; one-night yurt stays receive a 25% discount

Discounts apply to DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service).
