Join the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) in preserving access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure at Claytor Lake State Park.

About the role

Gas Dock Rangers are responsible for the daily operation of the gas dock, including providing excellent customer service, answering questions about the park, operating the point of sale system, completing cash and credit transactions accurately and efficiently, performing opening/closing tasks, keeping the gas dock and marina area clean and organized, and assisting guests with gas pumps as needed. Additional duties may be assigned by supervisors as required.

Responsibilities

• Gas sales, cash handling, and customer service
• Answering questions about the park
• Operating the point of sale system and completing transactions accurately
• Providing correct change as applicable
• Completing opening and closing tasks as assigned
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the gas dock and marina area
• Operating gas pumps and assisting guests
• Performing additional duties as requested by supervisors

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Ability to stand, bend, and work outdoors exposed to the elements
• Must work well with other staff and park guests
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays

Work Conditions

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

Additional Information

• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check

• A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business
