About the role

Claytor Lake State Park is accepting applications for Beach Ranger positions. This role ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for guests in the beach and swimming area, provides information about park rules, and performs lifesaving actions when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for guests in the swimming area.
• Inform guests of rules and regulations regarding swimming and the swimming area.
• Perform life-saving actions such as water rescues and CPR to ensure guest safety.

Requirements

• Ability to pass a lifeguard certification course.
• Ability to perform under stressful situations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Valid State Driver's License if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.

Qualifications

• Previous lifeguard experience or currently possess an up-to-date lifeguard certification.
• CPR/First Aid experience.
• Ability to work holidays and weekends.

Additional Information

• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form; DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $16.00

• Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
• Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
• Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights (two-night minimum stay required).
• Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts included; one-night yurt stays receive a 25% discount.

Note: Overnight facility discounts apply to DCR classified, retired, and wage staff after six months of service.
