Functions
- Patrols buildings and grounds of the Capitol building and Complex area on foot and in patrol vehicle.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
- Enforces all traffic and criminal laws of the State of Arkansas, makes arrests, and issues citations for violations.
- Investigates allegations of criminal or suspicious activities on Capitol grounds.
- Responds to calls for police service, writes and files police reports, and assists rescue units and other law enforcement agencies.
- Provides security to the Secretary of State on-site and during travel as necessary.
- Monitors for irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and maintenance issues.
- Answers questions and assists visitors to the State Capitol building.
- Affords assistance to elected officials, staff, and other state agencies and offices as needed.
Dimensions
- The employee is regularly required to use hands, talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- The employee may occasionally be required to move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Physical abilities may be required by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and loud noises.
- The employee may be exposed to dangerous situations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to visitors, legislators, constitutional officers, and other employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Minimum Qualifications
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Licenses:
- Certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Arkansas.
- 2+ years of law enforcement experience preferred.
- Must meet all Minimum Standards requirements as set by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
