About the role
The Town of Elon is seeking a Police Officer to join their dynamic team. Serving a community of about 12,000 residents, the department prides itself on being one of the safest in North Carolina and home to Elon University.
Responsibilities
- Patrols community to engender trust and support
- Checks security of buildings and residences
- Aprehends and arrests offenders
- Enforces speed limits and investigates traffic accidents
- Serves warrants, summons, and subpoenas
- Conducts criminal investigations
- Participates in public relations functions
- Serves as a K9 officer
- Serves as a school resource officer
- Responds to domestic situations
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalency
- Some prior experience in law enforcement work is desired
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Basic Law Enforcement Certification (BLET) by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the ability to obtain it
Qualifications
- Physical requirements include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and perform extensive reading
- High degree of physical fitness to withstand the rigors of law enforcement work
- Exposure to hazards including proximity to moving equipment, atmospheric conditions which may affect the respiratory system, and exposure to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and bodily harm
- Exposure to persons with criminal records with little to no respect for law enforcement

Pay
Salary for applicants who are BLET cadets starts at $42,037.30. Salary for applicants who possess NC Basic Law Enforcement (BLET) Certification will depend on level of experience. The salary for the highly qualified and experienced applicants is negotiable.
