About the role

The Town of Elon is seeking a Police Officer to join their dynamic team. Serving a community of about 12,000 residents, the department prides itself on being one of the safest in North Carolina and home to Elon University.

Responsibilities

• Patrols community to engender trust and support
• Checks security of buildings and residences
• Aprehends and arrests offenders
• Enforces speed limits and investigates traffic accidents
• Serves warrants, summons, and subpoenas
• Conducts criminal investigations
• Participates in public relations functions
• Serves as a K9 officer
• Serves as a school resource officer
• Responds to domestic situations

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalency
• Some prior experience in law enforcement work is desired
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License
• Basic Law Enforcement Certification (BLET) by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the ability to obtain it

Qualifications

• Physical requirements include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and perform extensive reading
• High degree of physical fitness to withstand the rigors of law enforcement work
• Exposure to hazards including proximity to moving equipment, atmospheric conditions which may affect the respiratory system, and exposure to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and bodily harm
• Exposure to persons with criminal records with little to no respect for law enforcement

Pay

Salary for applicants who are BLET cadets starts at $42,037.30. Salary for applicants who possess NC Basic Law Enforcement (BLET) Certification will depend on level of experience. The salary for the highly qualified and experienced applicants is negotiable.
