About the role
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide crime prevention and law enforcement services within a designated area. This includes conducting patrols, initiating investigations, responding to emergencies, and enforcing traffic laws.
Responsibilities
- Patrol an assigned area to prevent and detect criminal activities.
- Initiate applicable investigation techniques to develop and prosecute criminals.
- Document investigative actions, interviews, interrogations, subpoenas, written statements, affidavits, evidence collection, identification, location, and apprehension of perpetrators and property recovery.
- Prepare and present cases to the District Attorney's office.
- Investigate non-criminal actions like missing persons and found property.
- Conduct specialized undercover investigations as assigned.
- Respond to emergency calls to protect lives and property, often involving criminal activities.
- Apprehend suspected criminals as situations dictate.
- Prepare activity reports detailing patrol/investigation occurrences and submit reports for review.
- Enforce traffic laws through patrol and issuance of citations.
- Investigate and prepare crime/traffic reports on criminal activities and traffic accidents.
- File required reports for the court and legal process and appear and testify in court as required.
- Participate in Police Department crime prevention and education programs and activities.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
Requirements
Minimum age of 21 and a High School Diploma or GED. Must pass: Written examination, Background investigation, Essential Job Function screening, Polygraph test, Oral Review Board, Psychological screening, Drug test. Must possess good moral character and meet any other standards set by law or by policy of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver's License. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Qualifications
Lateral Entry Officers must meet the requirements set forth in the Colleyville Police Department's General Orders 401 (L).

Pay
SALARY RANGE: $80,072 - $95,285 annually (Police Cadets earn $6,028.64 monthly while in the Academy)
