Stage Manager (SCENE TCHN SR)

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Production Manager, serve as the Stage Manager for the majority of performances produced by the UC Davis Department of Music. The department produces over 100 high-profile concerts annually in the Pitzer Center, Music Building, or the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts. The Stage Manager coordinates concert activities, instruments, and gear between department staff, performers, and artists.

This is a 100% on-site, career appointment with union representation (TX-Technical Professionals) and full benefits eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Stage management for department performances (50% of time).
• Department operations, safety, and access coordination (50% of time).
• Coordinate concert activities, instruments, and equipment between staff, performers, and artists.
• Lead and manage crews with varying experience levels, including student crew members.
• Operate and troubleshoot professional-grade audio-visual, lighting, and sound-reinforcement equipment.
• Use electronic scheduling and diagram-making software (e.g., Vectorworks, OmniGraffle, VISIO, CAD, Google Sketch).
• Maintain compliance with current state and federal OSHA standards for theatrical environments.
• Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the event schedule.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience stage-managing music performances.
• Experience leading crews with diverse experience levels, including students.
• Experience in one or more of the following roles: light board operator, live-audio mixing engineer, or video technician.
• Experience operating power tools, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment safely.
• Experience working with regional, national, or internationally-known artists.
• Proficiency with electronic scheduling software and diagram-making tools (e.g., Vectorworks, OmniGraffle, VISIO, CAD, Google Sketch).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and experience levels.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Office 365, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPR certification and basic first aid skills.
• Experience reading music scores and calling cues.
• Experience playing or working with a variety of musical instruments and ensembles.
• Experience operating professional-grade digital projectors, screens, and audio-visual equipment.
• Experience with ETC lighting network equipment and LED lighting controls.
• Experience operating sound-reinforcement and audio-recording equipment, including digital and analog components.
• Experience troubleshooting audio and video equipment issues.
• Knowledge of different musical instruments and safe handling practices.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards applicable to professional theatrical environments.

Pay

$32.91 - $39.55/hour (hourly, STEP grade).

Schedule

Full-time (100%), Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays to support event schedules.
