About the role

The Staffing Coordinator at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge supports the Director of Nursing in coordinating and organizing administrative processes to facilitate the hiring and staffing of nursing personnel. This role involves managing candidate applications, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed, and facilitating adequate staffing across all nursing units.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and coordinates staffing needs with nursing personnel to evaluate availability
  • Coordinates with other departments to cover Mental Health Technician and Driver’s schedules
  • Collects and communicates special time requests from nursing personnel to the Director of Nursing
  • Tracks and trends attendance, requested absences, call-ins, and alternative coverage arrangements and communicates these to the Director of Nursing
  • Assists with the hire process for nursing personnel, including coordinating with the Human Resources Department
  • Mentors and communicates with Mental Health Technicians and Milieu Managers, assisting in scheduling and conducting their orientation
  • Documents, graphs, and reports demographics related to nursing personnel; communicates evaluation performance and remediation as needed
  • Maintains knowledge of procedure/protocol changes and communicates these to Mental Health Technicians and Milieu Managers
  • Serves as a position backup for all units as needed within the scope of knowledge
  • Maintains contact/communication with the nursing department outside of regular business hours to improve patient care outcomes
  • Assists with transcription and posting memos; maintains memos in the memo log and tracks compliance with communication

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • College education desirable
  • At least 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting
  • Must be able to read and write
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, be assertive in dealing with staff requests, and be highly organized
  • Demonstrates confidence and decision-making skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Must be flexible and responsible
  • Must be able to communicate knowledge in an educational arena
  • Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program
