About the Role

This is a Staff Psychiatrist, CF (SAFETY) position located at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) in San Diego, CA. The role is part of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing general population outpatient services to inmates. The team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers.

This is a limited-term position which may be extended or become permanent. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis on the following dates: 8/7/26, 8/21/26, 9/4/26, 9/18/26, 10/2/26, 10/16/26, 10/30/26, 11/13/26, 11/27/26, and 12/11/26.

Under the general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist (Supervisor), the Staff Psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations, participates in treatment planning and case reviews, prescribes medications, and provides crisis intervention and psychotherapy. The role also includes providing consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric evaluations for inmates.
• Participate in treatment planning and case reviews as part of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
• Prescribe and manage medications for patients.
• Provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy services.
• Offer consultations and training on treatment approaches to clinical and custody staff.

Pay

The authorized hiring-above-minimum (HAM) rates for this classification are: P $30,259 and Q $31,136. Effective July 1, 2023, employees in this role who provide direct in-person patient care more than 50% of the pay period will receive a 15% pay differential of their monthly base pay.

Salaries do not reflect the 4.62% base salary reduction due to the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), which also grants 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to these conditions on a prorated basis.

Eligible new hires may receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment, as well as a monthly recruitment and retention differential totaling $5,000 during their first year. CDCR/CCHCS employees may also be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.
