Recreation Therapist, Correctional Facility - Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD)
Duties
- Instruct and motivate patients in individual and group recreation therapy.
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of patients to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions.
- Monitor and document treatment progress.
- Work with other health care providers to share recreational therapy assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in therapeutic recreation, preferably in a correctional setting.
Licenses/Certifications: Current CPR certification, valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain a California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) Employee Health Clearance.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent organizational and communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $9,159 per month, effective July 1, 2025.
Schedule
This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent.
