Staff Physician - TO

About the Role

The Physician is responsible for supervising and providing necessary and desirable medical care within their specialty to Dartmouth-Hitchcock patients, consistent with the policies and procedures of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic (DHC) and the facility where care is rendered. If call coverage is required, the Physician will rotate on-call duties with other providers in their specialty to ensure comparable coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays. While on call, the Physician is expected to remain in close proximity as directed by the department chair or designee.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Physician will dedicate sufficient time to administrative and record-keeping matters related to their practice, participate in academic endeavors, and adhere to Dartmouth Health’s Bylaws for the Professional Staff and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Review patient records and detailed medical histories.
• Determine appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests and studies.
• Obtain informed consent for treatments, procedures, and studies.
• Prescribe medications, treatments, and medical devices within specialty scope.
• Initiate referrals to other providers as necessary.
• Initiate patient admissions and discharges, if applicable.
• Provide consultation, education, and counseling for acute and chronic illnesses and injuries.
• Encourage behavioral change and assist with self-management skills to improve health.
• Complete documentation in a timely manner.
• Provide patient- and family-centered care while ensuring privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.
• Supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) as directed.
• Participate in continuing medical education (CME).
• Engage in quality and patient safety initiatives.
• Fulfill academic responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair or designee, including:
  • Leading small group resident conferences.
  • Training residents and teaching medical and other health professional students.
  • Participating in clinical trials or sponsored research.
  • Fulfilling other Geisel obligations, if applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO).
• Postgraduate training in a residency program.
• Current New Hampshire Medical License.
• Current or eligibility for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years).
• Active hospital staff membership.
