About the role

The Surgical & Trauma Care Unit at the University of Iowa Health Care provides patient-centered care for trauma and emergency surgical conditions, urologic surgery, and orthopedic surgery. The unit emphasizes teamwork and holistic care, fostering a supportive environment for staff.

Responsibilities

- Provide compassionate and skilled care to patients in a high-stress environment. - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care. - Manage complex cases involving trauma, urology, and orthopedics. - Maintain accurate documentation and follow-up on patient care plans. - Participate in ongoing professional development and education.

Requirements

- Possess a current license to practice nursing in Iowa. - Hold an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA). - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Proficient in general computer skills, including Microsoft Excel. - Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is highly desirable but not required if actively enrolled in a BSN program.

- Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.

Pay

- Salaried position with a minimum starting salary of $61,183 at 100% effort. - Salary varies based on years of experience and percent of effort. - Pay differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. - Up to $5,000 annual inpatient differential based on percent time.

Schedule

- 90% night shift schedule. - Weekend and holiday rotations as assigned.

Location

- Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa.
