Staff Legal Secretary
This position is a hybrid role combining remote work and in-office activity, designed to meet the needs of the selected candidate and Zurich North America. While the model provides flexibility and autonomy, occasional in-office attendance may be required. The candidate should be able to report to either the Maitland or Fort Lauderdale office. For the right candidate, a fully remote Florida-based arrangement may be considered.
About the role
As a Staff Legal Secretary, you will provide a broad range of administrative and secretarial support for three insurance defense attorneys specializing in Workers’ Compensation and General Liability.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of legal document formats to prepare and type contracts, briefs, summonses, complaints, and motions.
- Provide administrative support to 2-3 attorneys, including answering phones, scheduling, and maintaining calendars.
- Respond to inquiries from and interact with customers, clients, counsel, and witnesses.
- Draft legal pleadings, correspondence, and other documents as directed.
- Maintain accurate litigation management systems for assigned attorneys' cases.
- Organize and maintain electronic files related to legal and administrative matters.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks and participating in projects as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience as a Legal Secretary within the Insurance industry, OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience as a Legal Secretary within the Insurance industry.
- Experience drafting legal documents and correspondence.
- Experience providing administrative support to one or more attorneys.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
- Ability to effectively draft complex legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Familiarity with litigation management software systems.
- Organization and prioritization skills.
- Experience with Florida jurisdiction and laws.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Defense litigation experience.
- Experience handling both Workers’ Compensation and Litigation matters.
Pay
The proposed hourly range for this position is $24.66–$33.89, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 5%. Pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience, and we follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases.
