About the Role

Tesla Energy is bringing battery, solar, and charging technologies to the grid, establishing new industries and defining the future of renewable energy ecosystems. This role is at the forefront of how we will generate, distribute, and consume power today and in the future. As a Staff Engineer on the Wire Harness Design team, you will lead the design, development, and industrialization of wire harness and interconnect systems across our energy storage and charging portfolio – working on products like Megapack and Supercharger. Our team is composed of individuals who are fast-moving, self-motivated, and resilient team players who love to solve difficult problems.

What You'll Do

  • Define and own the harness and interconnect architecture across multiple Energy Products programs, driving design decisions from concept through mass production
  • Establish and maintain organization-wide harness design standards, DFM/DFA guidelines, connector specifications, and validation frameworks
  • Lead complex trade-off studies involving cost, weight, thermal performance, serviceability, and routing, presenting clear recommendations to senior leadership
  • Design and release wire harness assemblies, including connector selection, terminal specification, wire/cable sizing, routing, and protection schemes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, Manufacturing, Test, and Supply Chain teams to influence product roadmaps and resolve system-level integration challenges
  • Mentor and develop junior harness engineers through design reviews, knowledge sharing, and establishment of best practices
  • Champion root cause analysis (8D, fishbone, 5-Why) for field and production harness issues; implement systemic corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Lead and participate in DFMEA, DVP&R, and design review processes to ensure harness reliability and manufacturability
  • Document build instructions for complex Industrial wire harnesses and support manufacturing during NPI builds and production ramp, resolving harness-related build issues in real time
  • Author and maintain engineering documentation including harness drawings, specifications, test procedures, and technical reports

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in wire harness design, development, and manufacturing support in automotive, energy storage, aerospace, or a related industry
  • 3+ years in a senior or lead engineering capacity with demonstrated technical leadership
  • Solid engineering fundamentals: DC/AC circuit analysis, analog and digital signal processing, communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet), LV / HV systems
  • Understanding of vehicle or system-level systems engineering including communications, functionality trade-offs, grounding, creepage and clearance, EMC strategies
  • Familiarity with automated wire processing and harness manufacturing equipment (cut-strip-crimp, ultrasonic welding, etc.)
  • Deep proficiency with harness design tools such as Capital Harness, Zuken E3, Catia Electrical, Creo Cabling, or equivalent
  • Expertise with 3D CAD and PLM software (CATIA preferred)
  • Familiarity with, and working knowledge of, mechanical systems: thermal, heat dissipation, vibration, strength, durability, corrosion-prevention
