Staff Engineer

About the role

Ideon is powering the digital transformation of the health insurance and benefits industry through APIs that enable modern benefits experiences. As a key member of the engineering team, you will:

• Own significant projects end-to-end, from technical design through implementation and rollout.
• Set technical direction across Ideon’s healthcare data platform and member management solution, including Ruby on Rails APIs (with newer Axum-based services) and Rust data-processing pipelines.
• Exercise high autonomy and influence the culture and direction of the technical organization.
• Apply strong technical judgment to development practices, including effective use of AI-assisted tools.
• Raise engineering standards, processes, and code quality across the team.
• Mentor engineers and serve as a technical leader.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of owning substantial projects from design through delivery.
• Proficiency in both Ruby and Rust—experience with Ruby on Rails (including Axum-based services) and large-scale data pipelines in Rust.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining production APIs.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.
• Strong technical taste and judgment in using AI-assisted development tools effectively.
• Commitment to high-quality code and software development craft.
• Thrives in highly collaborative engineering teams and values transparent, positive communication.
