Responsibilities
- Lead complex root cause investigations on product quality issues, working cross-functionally with quality, service, production, and design engineering teams
- Design, develop, execute, and evaluate advanced diagnostic approaches to identify and define root causes of field and product issues
- Implement corrective actions to resolve existing issues and prevent recurrence across current and future product designs
- Drive and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability, reduce field failures, and improve customer satisfaction
- Support the Industrial Service team in resolving escalated customer issues requiring deep technical expertise
- Collaborate with Product Engineering and Manufacturing to incorporate field feedback and lessons learned into new product development and production processes
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA) to ensure consistent and effective resolution of engineering issues
- Travel as needed to Generac facilities and customer sites to support investigation and resolution efforts
- Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, acting as a technical resource and contributing to team capability development
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional project teams, ensuring alignment and successful execution across stakeholders
- Contribute to engineering standards, procedures, and best practices while driving improvements in engineering impact on business performance
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in new product design and development, including machine design and knowledge of generator controls, tuning, and liquid-cooled engine systems
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated ability to resolve complex engineering issues using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA)
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a matrixed organization and lead or contribute to project teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with high accuracy, strong attention to detail, and effective prioritization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Proficiency with engineering tools and systems, including FEA/diagnostic tools, 3D modeling (ProE/SolidWorks), MS Office, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
- Experience with electrical system diagnostics, including use of tools such as oscilloscopes
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently, apply engineering knowledge to improve products/processes, and understand broader business and financial impact
