STAFF CHEMIST

Position Summary Under the general direction of the Chief Chemist, this position will conduct laboratory analysis, instrument maintenance, instrument calibration and QA/QC compliance on the feedstock and products associated with a complex nitrogen fertilizer facility. The incumbent will review analytical data and provide technical support to the production laboratory. This is a full-time day shift position. Education Requirements Bachelor of Science Degree required in either Chemistry (preferred) or related science field Experience Requirements 5+ years' experience in a chemical plant or refining laboratory preferredDemonstrated knowledge and experience in using laboratory database systems and/or instrument operating software preferredDemonstrated proficiency in a laboratory environment and compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety policiesDemonstrated knowledge of laboratory testing equipment including Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, X-Ray spectrometers and various other laboratory testing equipmentProficiency with Word and Excel is requiredMust have the ability to analyze data and provide status reportsGood problem solving and analytical skillsExcellent communication skills; both written and oralAbility to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the business and address unexpected issuesFluent in English, both oral and written required Major Accountabilities Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals. Perform chemical analysis and quality control testing in the Lab using accepted, published procedures along with in-house methodsPerform calibrations and standardizations to maintain quality in test resultsMaintain the QA/QC program, complete quality investigations as needed, as well as any reports and recordkeeping needed to validate sample resultsMaintain product specifications and purchase material specificationsPerform special studies to support Operations and Process Engineers troubleshooting production problemsDevelop ability to maintain lab electronic reporting system and lab equipment repairsProvide support to ensure compliant operations requiredMay perform non-routine physical and chemical testing of products and processing materialsInteract with Supervisors, Engineers or Operators to help troubleshoot process problemsAdhere to safe work practices EXPECTED RESULTS To provide data for plant processesTo improve accuracy and to maintain qualityEnsure specifications are being met on all products and effective completion of dutiesAdherence to all company policies and procedures Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
