Staff Accountant

Our client, a well-established manufacturing company in the Pittsburgh area, is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and cross-functional coordination with departments including Operations, Shipping, Sales, and Management. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and prior experience in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounts payable process, including invoice approvals, data entry, payment processing, vendor reconciliations, and new vendor setup.
• Monitor paid tariffs on imported materials and ensure accurate allocation and posting to the general ledger.
• Review employee expense reports for accuracy, proper documentation, and appropriate classification.
• Manage the monthly accrual process and assist with month-end close activities.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Prepare intercompany reconciliations and process related payments.
• Prepare financial statements and maintain financial records in compliance with company policies and accepted accounting procedures.
• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
• Assist with monthly and year-end closings, including reporting into the group consolidation tool.
• Support internal and external audits, as well as tax-related requests, by providing required documentation and information.
• Partner closely with Operations, Shipping, Sales, and Management to ensure effective communication and timely reporting.
• Prepare weekly and monthly financial and operational reports as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in finance, accounting, forecasting, or cost accounting.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience with accounting systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Current valid driver's license.

Preferred

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• Experience with month-end close processes.
• Knowledge of local GAAP and IFRS.
• Experience with SAP Business One.
• Prior experience in the manufacturing, steel, or services industries.
