Staff Accountant

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage program-specific billing, including the preparation of monthly invoices and proactive follow-up on outstanding accounts receivable
  • Accurately deposit and record all incoming cash receipts
  • Record donations and generate monthly donation reports for review
  • Reconcile credit card expenses and assist cardholders with inquiries
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts to ensure ledger accuracy
  • Verify the accuracy of descriptions on Certificates of Insurance and distribute them to funders in a timely manner
  • Provide cross-functional support and backup coverage for Accounts Payable operations as needed
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of accounting experience, preferably working with non-profits or healthcare clinics
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field preferred

Competencies

  • Strong understanding of the general ledger and accounts receivable
  • Familiarity with GAAP and understanding of the accounting receivable cycle
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems, preferably Abila MIP
  • Experience with G-Suite Applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail, strong time management skills and an ability to work within defined deadlines
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team
  • Able to work in-person at our Oakland, CA office (relocation assistance not provided)
