Staff Accountant

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries
• Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts
• Prepare and record accounts payable transactions in compliance with accounting policies
• Prepare and analyze balance sheet account reconciliations
• Aid in fixed asset maintenance and depreciation schedules
• Support the preparation for internal and external audits
• Manage the processing, reporting, and maintenance of Unclaimed Property in accordance with state regulations
• Maintain and update vendor files to ensure current and accurate records
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and internal control enhancement efforts
• Identify discrepancies, process gaps, or operational inefficiencies and escalate issues appropriately
• Communicate effectively across departments to resolve accounting-related issues and improve workflow
• Perform additional accounting duties, projects, and special assignments as directed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field required
• 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or insurance industry setting
• Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles
• Proficient in Microsoft excel and other Microsoft applications
• Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting processes
• Property/Casualty insurance industry experience is a plus
