About the role
The Math Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit education organization focused on developing high-quality mathematics materials, including the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum. We serve more than 80,000 elementary teachers across the country through our programs.
Responsibilities
- Perform account analysis to ensure entries and balances are correct.
- Review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile accounts with the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and that transactions are reported in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations.
- Set up new general ledger accounts and maintain the general ledger.
- Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and report on revenue reconciliation.
- Prepare journal entries relating to amortization, depreciation, accruals, and a variety of other information.
- Ensure an accurate and timely month end close by preparing various journal entries and account reconciliations for cash, prepaids, accruals, inter-company, fixed assets, and various other accounts.
- Collaborate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues.
- Ensure data supports budgeting and forecasting requirements and that expenses are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Perform monthly budget-to-actual reporting.
- Assist with monthly payroll process.
- Gather and document necessary information to support annual financial audits.
- Support tax compliance by gathering required documentation and assisting with the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field) or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years of general ledger accounting experience.
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Enterprise Resource Planning software, and accounting software (including online platforms).
- Ability to pay close attention to accuracy and precision in work tasks.
- Ability to analyze data, information, and situations to identify problems, draw conclusions and develop effective solutions and recommendations.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively in a team environment.
