Staff Accountants work closely with others in the firm to assist clients, management, owners, and those charged with governance of privately held businesses, not-for-profit organizations, governmental entities, employee benefit plans, and individuals. The role provides basic accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services within established firm and accounting guidelines.
Responsibilities
In general, approximately 80%–85% of your time will be associated with the following tasks:
- Perform fieldwork procedures in accounting and auditing engagements (including client inquiry, analytics, and testing).
- Prepare financial statements.
- Prepare federal and state income tax returns for corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, trusts, estates, and non-profits.
- Prepare other governmental filings as necessary.
- Perform basic accounting functions including bookkeeping and reconciliations.
- Build communication skills with internal teams, management, and clients.
- Complete in-house special projects.
The remaining 15%–20% of your time will likely include:
- Participate in firm-directed CPE and on-the-job training.
- Networking and development of a personal marketing plan.
- In-house projects (committees, working groups, etc.).
- Outside of normal job responsibilities, devote significant efforts toward obtaining a CPA certificate.
Requirements
- B.S. in Accounting or a closely related degree.
- MST, MSA, or other industry-related graduate degree is preferred.
- 150 relevant credit hours (as required for the CPA Exam) and should be on the CPA career track with basic knowledge of accounting concepts.
- Strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, energetic, and a desire to learn.
- Ability to excel in a deadline-driven environment.
- Integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
- Effective communication with client employees and management.
- Proficient knowledge of Excel.
Schedule
Standard day shift in an office environment. Role may require travel or alternate work schedules based on client needs.
Pay
$58,500–$68,000 yearly salary.
