Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support key accounting and tax functions for an organization based in Sanford, Maine. This Long-term Contract position offers the opportunity to contribute across financial reporting, ledger maintenance, and tax-related activities in a hands-on accounting environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, accuracy in daily financial processes, and experience working with corporate and sales tax responsibilities. Responsibilities: • Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are captured accurately and on time. • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed. • Support the preparation of corporate tax filings and related schedules in compliance with applicable regulations. • Manage sales tax reporting activities, including compiling data, reviewing calculations, and assisting with timely submissions. • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes by verifying balances and producing supporting documentation. • Review financial records for completeness and accuracy while helping improve consistency in accounting procedures. • Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role. • Knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation practices. • Hands-on experience preparing journal entries in a structured accounting environment. • Familiarity with corporate tax concepts, including support for corporate tax return preparation. • Experience handling sales tax reporting and related documentation. • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately.
