Responsibilities
- Oversee invoice processing from receipt through payment, including coding, approval coordination, and disbursement administration.
- Examine vendor invoices and employee expense submissions to confirm accuracy, required documentation, and adherence to organizational policies.
- Create and post journal entries with proper backup and maintain assigned general ledger accounts through timely monthly reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank activity, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet items, researching differences and resolving exceptions efficiently.
- Contribute to the monthly close by assembling supporting schedules, completing reconciliations, and preparing documentation used in financial reporting.
- Provide departmental reporting support by distributing monthly expense information, reviewing coding concerns, and following up on unusual variances.
- Assist with annual 1099 reporting, audit requests, external accountant inquiries, and other compliance-related documentation.
- Recommend improvements to accounting workflows and internal controls, document procedures, and support effective use of accounting and finance systems.
- Partner with internal teams on purchasing and payment processes while contributing to financial analysis, ad hoc reporting, and special projects as needed.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of accounting experience, including hands-on work in accounts payable and general ledger functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Solid knowledge of core accounting principles, financial controls, account reconciliations, and month-end processes.
- Experience preparing journal entries and supporting compliance activities such as 1099 reporting; exposure to corporate tax, sales tax, or related filings is a plus.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or faith-based organization accounting environments is beneficial.
- Proficiency with accounting platforms such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar systems, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and sound judgment when handling confidential financial information.
- Effective communication, organization, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across teams in a fast-paced setting.
