About the role
The Staff Accountant develops precise financial data and keeps accurate accounting records in all journals and ledgers. Provides support to the Director of Finance to ensure all financial activities and processes are compliant with state and federal regulations and conducted timely.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for accounts payable, including but not limited to purchase order entry, check issuance, ACH/epayment recording, utility tracking, vendor relations, prepaid allocations, lease/SBITA monitoring, and documentation compliance.
- Performs general ledger/general journal review and reconciliation including the preparation of required journal entries and adjustments.
- Aids in the development of the audited financial statements, footnotes, and other required financial reporting to external agencies.
- Aids in budget development and monitoring.
- Processes 1099NEC IRS Tax reporting annually.
- Participates in all phases of audits, reviews, and monitoring and analysis of finance records and documents by all contracting agencies and all federal, state, and county authorities.
- Prepares weekly and monthly financial reports/statements for internal use.
- Calculates and applies for Motor Fuel Refunds through SCDOR monthly.
- Reconciles credit card transactions and confirms completion of required documentation every month.
- Manages the counting of fare revenue and the preparation for bank deposit.
- Aids in the review of new GASB pronouncements and the implementation of new requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in accounting from an accredited four-year college or university and five years' experience in finance in a public agency or governmental entity.
