Staff Accountant
About the role
This position supports the accuracy and integrity of financial records through effective accounting processes, analysis, and reporting. Key responsibilities include updating and maintaining product standard costs, investigating purchase price variance, preparing inventory reports, supporting month-end close activities, and assisting with various accounting operations.
Responsibilities
- Update and maintain product standard costs.
- Investigate purchase price variance and make necessary adjustments to standard costs.
- Prepare inventory reports and analysis of inventory locations and brands.
- Support month-end financial accounting close and reporting.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Avoid approving inter-company sales orders.
- Assist with shrink assessment.
- Ensure inventory write-offs have been properly posted.
- Assist with year-end closing and annual external audit.
- Learn other accounting responsibilities and cross train for individual development and backup for other positions.
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills; able to effectively communicate with multiple departments and management levels.
- Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills.
- Must be self-starter and detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated (curious individual that will seek analysis).
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in accounting.
- Minimum of 2-4 years related experience in cost accounting, inventory, reporting, and consolidation.
- Experience working in an inventory environment is a plus.
- Accounting/GAAP knowledge.
- Full P&L experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office – specifically Excel (PowerPoint experience a plus but not required).
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is a plus.
