About the role
Merchology seeks a Staff Accountant for our Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in contributing to the success of Merchology.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations, including variance analysis and resolution of reconciling items.
- Assist with the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries, including supporting documentation.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze account activity and investigate unusual or unexpected variances, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Assist with year-end audit activities, including preparation of account reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit requests.
- Assist with maintaining accounting documentation and internal controls.
- Review and reconcile Company banking and credit card transactions.
- Provide backup support for AR and AP functions, including customer collections, cash application, invoice processing, and other duties as needed.
- Assist other departments with ad hoc accounting and reporting requests.
- Prepare and file sales tax returns and assist with related reconciliations and compliance requirements.
- Participate in special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in an accounting position.
- Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting or related field.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze account activity and identify discrepancies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative and professional interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with formulas, PivotTables, and large datasets.
- Experience with NetSuite or another ERP/accounting system preferred.

Pay
$60,000 - $70,000
Schedule
Hybrid role: Three days onsite and two days remote following training. There is no option for fully remote work.
