Staff Accountant

McAllister Towing has provided superior tugboat service to New York Harbor since 1864. Today, McAllister's tugs serve the busy ports of New York and New Jersey, handling a significant portion of the 16 million tons of cargo that passes through the port annually. In addition to ship docking and general harbor assist work, McAllister tugs are regularly employed in offshore towing along the entire East Coast and Galveston, TX.

About the role

The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Post, monitor, and review transactions in the general ledger.
• Run and review AR and AP aging.
• Reconcile bank statements.
• Prepare and file various online returns for multiple legal entities for corporate, sales, and property taxes.
• Maintain tax calendar with due dates, websites, filing frequencies, etc.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing, including balance sheet and P&L analysis.
• Prepare documents for annual audit.
• Prepare ad-hoc reports and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel; strong spreadsheet skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Finance and Operations is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience with strong debit/credit knowledge.
• Ability to work independently to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Deadline-oriented.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate a computer terminal.
• Ability to operate telephones and standard office equipment.

Pay

Annual salary: $80,000 – $95,000 (FLSA Administrative Exempt).
