Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries (accruals, payroll entries, reclasses, intercompany).
- Prepare and maintain assigned balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving reconciling items.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to management.
- Support consolidated reporting and multi-entity accounting, as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Drive process improvements and automation within the GL function.
- Partner with HR/People Operations to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing (multi-state and/or multi-entity preferred).
- Carefully coordinate global payroll inputs and validate payroll reports to ensure completeness and accuracy including wages, bonuses, commissions, equity compensation, and deductions.
- Maintain payroll supporting documentation and audit trails for each payroll cycle, ensuring all inputs, approvals, and calculations are properly documented and retained.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and own reconciliation of payroll-related accounts (wages and variable compensation payable, tax liabilities, benefits accruals, equity compensation, and 401k contributions).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Aid in year-end reporting including W-2s and related payroll filings.
- Support audits related to payroll, benefits, and compensation.
- Maintain strong internal controls over payroll and GL processes.
- Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits.
- Assist with SOX compliance or internal control testing, if applicable.
- Support special accounting projects and ad hoc reporting requests.
- Stay current on changes in payroll regulations and accounting standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience, including 1-2 years of payroll accounting experience.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite, SAP, Workday, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
- Experience working in high-growth software companies is strongly preferred.
- CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
