Job Summary
Discovery Land Company is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our Corporate Accounting team. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies. This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's Corporate Office locations in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.
- Record daily cash activity, including bank transactions, receipts, and disbursements, ensuring accurate and timely entries in the general ledger.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment runs, and aging report review.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and variance analyses for management review.
- Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capitalization policy compliance.
- Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and gathering supporting documentation.
- Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (FP&A, operations, legal) to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and analysis as directed by senior accounting leadership.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA candidate preferred.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs); experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP) a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and desire to work in fast-paced environment.
- CPA or active pursuit of CPA licensure preferred.
- Experience with multi-entity or intercompany accounting preferred.
- Exposure to financial statement preparation preferred.
