Staff Accountant

About the role
This is a unique opportunity for a driven, detail-attentive, junior-level accountant to join a growing team where advancement is tied to achievement, not tenure. The Staff Accountant will own projects and work with the team to identify and address areas of improvement within our accounting function. You will gain experience with a wide range of accounting and finance operations, take ownership of core operational areas, master new concepts and processes quickly, and handle confidential information with excellent judgment.

Responsibilities
- Manage the invoicing and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accurate and timely billing, collections, and account maintenance.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts and ensure account balances are accurate and properly supported.
- Prepare monthly journal entries for review and approval by the Controller.
- Manage employee and independent contractor commissions.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of the annual financial statement audit.
- Manage the employee expense reporting process, ensuring timely submission, review, reconciliation, and compliance with company policies.
- Manage and reconcile Stripe transactions, including inquiries, refunds, cancellations, and related accounting activity.
- Prepare and submit monthly and annual state tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable deadlines and requirements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and workflows designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce turnaround times, strengthen internal controls, and streamline accounting processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within accounting and finance functions.
- Provide general accounting, finance, and administrative support as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller.
Requirements
- B.A. or B.S. degree required, preferred in Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
- Preference given to candidates pursuing a finance or accounting-related master’s degree, MBA, or CPA certification.
- 2-3 years of corporate accounting experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a professional, business-oriented communication style.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Detail-driven, able to prioritize workflow and manage projects independently.
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively while handling multiple projects on various timelines in an extremely fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical thinking skills and a dedicated work ethic.
Skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project Management).
- Proficiency with Sage Intacct Enterprise Solutions or similar programs.
- Account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements.
- General ledger review and preparation of journal entries.
