About the Role
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the accounting team reporting to the Corporate Accounting Manager or Supervisor and working closely with the Director to contribute to a timely and accurate month-end close. This position is responsible for advanced accounting activities related to affordable housing multi-family limited partnerships and includes executing critical internal controls, maintaining GAAP compliance, and driving process improvements across Corporate Accounting.

Responsibilities
- Perform daily accounting operations including journal entries, account reconciliations, SOX internal control procedures, and financial reporting.
- Process monthly financial packages from third-party property management companies (PMCOs) to ensure completeness and accuracy of reported information.
- Provide oversight and guidance to PMCOs to ensure GAAP compliance and data integrity.
- Prepare journal entries and other analytical data to support month-end closes.
- Support the accounting for debt, including journal entries, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Reconcile general ledger account balances to the sub-ledger or supporting schedules.
- Analyze month-over-month and actual budget variances for both balance sheet and income statement activity.
- Actively assist in implementing new accounting processes and streamlining existing processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Work closely with other teams in the organization and external third-party providers to ensure that all transactions are recorded properly and timely.
- Gather documentation and prepare responses to requests from internal and external auditors.
- Troubleshoot escalated issues and ensure that they are handled timely and effectively.
- Document and update operating standard procedures for key accounting processes.
- Provide special project assistance to the CFO, CAO, Controller, or Accounting and Tax.
- Produce ad hoc reports and analyses as necessary.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Yardi, FAS, and real-estate-related systems preferred.

Qualifications
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- 2+ years of relevant accounting experience in both industry and public accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, including consolidations and real estate accounting.
- CPA preferred.
- Experience in real estate or investment accounting strongly preferred.
- Big 4 public accounting experience is a plus.

Pay
Base Compensation Range: $40.86 to $48.07 hourly. The actual base compensation range may vary based on factors such as location and experience.
