Staff Accountant
Americo is hiring a full-time Staff Accountant to join our expanding team on-site at our downtown Kansas City, MO office location.
About the role
The Corporate Finance Department supports general accounting functions, ensuring financial statement accuracy, conducting expense analysis, managing allocations and reconciliations, and completing tax-related reporting. This role supports department managers and internal finance stakeholders by reviewing departmental spending, preparing monthly accrual entries, analyzing expense allocation results, and assisting with quarterly and annual financial statement schedules within established reporting timeframes.
Responsibilities
- Review monthly spending by department, prepare journal entries for the monthly close process, research budget variances, and assist with explanations.
- Provide department managers with monthly spending reports and support the annual budget preparation and review process.
- Review book and tax depreciation and prepare monthly allocations and reconciliations.
- Process expense reports independently and provide support for invoice processing, use tax filings, and unclaimed property processing.
- Prepare estimated and annual premium tax returns, municipal tax returns, and annual unclaimed property filings.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual exhibits and schedules included in financial statements.
- Perform critical analysis of expenses and expense allocation results to help ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, including accruals, debits and credits, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Understanding of general ledger systems, such as Oracle Fusion, Workday, NetSuite, PeopleSoft, or Navision, with the ability to research and resolve issues using system queries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and SUMIF functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle Fusion and/or Oracle Narrative Reporting.
- Experience using Concur for expense management and reporting.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in financial reporting.
- Previous experience in the insurance or financial services industry.

Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
