Staff Accountant 1
Position Summary
We are seeking a detailed-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This position will support the accounting department through account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, cash management activities, and month-end close support. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and eager to develop professionally within a collaborative environment. This role offers exposure to multiple areas of accounting and finance within the auto loan refinancing industry and provides opportunities for long-term growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Controller, this position includes:
- Cash and Banking Operations
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Monitor cash transactions and investigate variances
- Aid in cash forecasting and cash management reporting
- Ensure accurate recording of banking and loan-related transactions
- Loan Portfolio Accounting Support
- Reconcile loan servicing and funding accounts
- Aid in tracking loan activity, settlements, and related accounting transactions
- Support accounting processes related to loan payoffs
- Help ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data related to lending operations
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Support
- Assist with vendor invoice processing and payment verification
- Support customer billing and collection activities when needed
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer account records
- Research and resolve account discrepancies
- Compliance and Internal Controls
- Follow established accounting policies and procedures
- Aid with audit requests and regulatory reporting support
- Maintain organized documentation supporting accounting transactions
- Help strengthen internal controls and process compliance
- Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflow efficiency
- Aid with system implementations, automation projects, and process enhancements
- Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- 2-4 years of accounting-related internship/work experience
- Understanding of accounting and financial reporting
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
PREFERRED:
- Experience in financial services, lending, banking, or loan servicing
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems
- Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close support
- Knowledge of internal controls and audit support processes
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semesters in accounting
- Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP
- NetSuite experience a plus
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Public accounting experience a plus
Conditions of Employment
Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License
Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check
Able to work additional hours outside of a regular schedule during and available on an as-needed or emergency basis
