SSS Academic Coordinator

About the role

The SSS Academic Coordinator is responsible to the TRIO Director. The primary purpose is to recruit, counsel, arrange academic and other support services for eligible DSCC students who are first generation college and/or low-income students in order for them to successfully complete their degree. Student Support Services is part of the federal TRIO programs through the Department of Education. The program is designed to help first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities progress through college to earn a degree. The services provided include but are not limited: advising, tutoring, advice and assistance in course selection, provide information on financial aid, financial literacy education, and assist students in transferring to a four-year institution.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the recruitment of participants that are first generation and/or low income or have a disability.
• Develop and complete individual plans for each participant and update as needed.
• Provide counseling in careers, academics, financial aid, and personal matters as needed.
• Responsible for monitoring and recording each participant’s academic progress.
• Provide participants assistance on college enrollment, financial aid, scholarships, and FAFSA.
• Provide students assistance in transferring to a four-year institution.
• Carry out on-site visits to four-year institutions for students that are going to transfer.
• Manage participant files (paper and electronic) to document academic, counseling, tutoring, advising, follow-up, and tracking for annual reporting requirements per the grant.
