Sr Tech - Operations (Currant Creek)

About the role

To ensure that the Currant Creek Combined Cycle Power Plant is operated and maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This includes carrying out all necessary routine statutory and non-statutory inspections, operational and maintenance activities, and maintaining appropriate records. Senior Plant Technicians will perform project leader and planning functions as part of their regular duties. Employees may direct the work of outside vendors or assume leadership roles during planned outages or other service needs. Secondary duties may include maintenance activities the employee is qualified to perform.

The Currant Creek facility operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This position requires working a rotating shift pattern, including weekends and holidays, and providing cover as needed to maintain minimum staffing levels.

Responsibilities

• Operate the power plant in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
• Develop and implement plant operating and safety procedures.
• Perform control room operations for all areas of the plant within guidance laid down in station procedures or manufacturers' recommendations.
• Conduct start-up and shut-down activities of the units.
• Respond to plant alarms as required.
• Use control and information systems to optimize performance and minimize plant damage.
• Release plant and make safe for work.
• Perform routine inspection and operation of outside plant.
• Conduct routine testing of plant and equipment and maintain testing records.
• Monitor and adjust plant water chemistry.
• Take actions required under fire and emergency conditions as laid down in plant procedures.
• Interface with commercial and trading on the commercial dispatch of the plant.
• Perform local and remote switching operations within the 345kV substation.
• Use the SAP maintenance management system to raise defects.
• Manage budgets under their control within company and site policies, ensuring they are maintained within budget.
• Manage contractors carrying out specific contract work and ensure compliance with site instructions.
• Undertake minor maintenance activities within the capability and skills of the individual and be willing to learn new skills.
• Assist other staff within the plant to carry out their duties to ensure the plant meets its obligations to the company.
• Support plant activities to promote the station and the company in the community.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of experience in the operation of large generating plant or similar industrial facility or process.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment exam determining knowledge and skill level of operating plant processes, electrical distribution, generation, water/steam cycles, and turbine operation.
• Effective communication skills.
• Basic proficiency with computers and related software.
• Demonstrated team working skills.
• Ability to work a rotating shift including weekends and holidays.
• Availability to cover overtime, including weekends and holidays, as necessary.
• Complete a respiratory evaluation and fit test.
• Physically able to perform the essential duties of the job.

Pay

Hiring range: $57.45 per hour. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 0.00% of salary.
